About

In response to the war in Ukraine and assuming our responsibility for urgent support of Ukraine’s academic and medical community, EAACI is proud to announce the opening of the EAACI – Ukraine Fellowship 2024, a special solidarity initiative dedicated to support Ukrainian clinical and basic researchers and researchers of other nationalities working in Ukraine, who are affected by the invasion of Ukraine and intend to pursue joint research and clinical projects with members of EAACI in Europe.

This programme was created to provide a line of support for researchers in the allergy and clinical immunology field, who either cannot continue their research in Ukraine under the current circumstances or who have fled the war in Ukraine. These professionals can apply for an EAACI fellowship of 3 to 6 months under a specific EAACI- Ukraine fellowship scheme.

Grant

Fellows receive EUR 5.000 each to cover a 3 month or 6 months at 15’000 EUR each clinical fellowship in a foreign European hospital and pay for accommodation and travel (receipts for these expenses are required)

Note

The Fellow’s salary would be covered by the hospital of origin

Duration

The duration of the Clinical Fellowship is 3 to 6 months

Eligibility

EAACI Junior Members (JMs) in training or recently specialised in allergy and clinical immunology

Fellowship Schedule

All fellows have one year after the formal announcement to complete their fellowship, depending on the centres/fellow availability

Report

At the end of the fellowship the candidate must submit a report describing the activities undertaken, as well as feedback/suggestions. A brief report of the candidate should also be made by the centre

Application procedure – EAACI Ukraine Clinical Fellowship 2024

The fellowship application uses an online platform. You are asked to complete some information online and upload additional signed documents into the system.

Before starting the application process, please ensure you have the following information at hand:

1. A copy of your valid ID/passport (mandatory)
2. Certificate of residence (in English) (mandatory)
3. Your EAACI Membership Number (mandatory)
4. Your host’s EAACI membership number (mandatory)
5. Your home supervisor’s EAACI membership number (if applicable; special conditions might apply due to current circumstances)
In cases where, due to current circumstances, Ukrainian home institutions had to stop their usual clinical, academic or research activities, applicants are able to claim exemption from providing the home supervisor’s EAACI membership number, the home institution release form, the confirmation from the home supervisor regarding the acceptance of the terms or a letter of recommendation from the home supervisor. The proof of affiliation to a Ukrainian academic or clinical institution valid as of February 2022 will be sufficient. This also applies to applicants who had to flee from Ukraine to other countries since February 2022.

General Terms – Ukraine Clinical and Research Fellowship

1. To be eligible to apply via the online system you must be under the age of 40 and an active member of the EAACI.
2. Researchers who are living and working in Ukraine in a clinical or academic institution or under the current circumstances they had to stop their usual activities, must contact an institution in another European country that is willing to host them for the whole duration of the fellowship, and define a supervisor. The host supervisor must be a member of EAACI, or have applied for membership of EAACI at the time of the Fellowship application.
3. Your home institution must be willing to release you of all work, laboratory and clinical, during the whole duration of the fellowship, and ensure that you will have the possibility to come back after the conclusion of the fellowship (if applicable; special conditions might apply due to current circumstances).

5. Adequate fluency in a language that permits effective communication in the host institution is required.
6. Fellowship recipients are not insured by EAACI and are encouraged to make sure that both, they and the institutions which receive them, are fully covered by the necessary insurances. Host institutions are encouraged to assist and pay for this. EAACI will not accept any liability.
Force Majeure
The performance of the Agreement by either party shall be subject to force majeure, including but not limited to acts of God, fire, flood, earthquakes, natural disaster, war or threat of war, acts or threats of terrorism, military disturbance, civil disorder, riots, strikes, governmental regulation or advisory, pandemic, epidemic, endemic or any recognized health threats as determined by the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control, or national or local government authority or health agencies (including but not limited to the health threats of COVID-19, or other infectious diseases), curtailment of transportation facilities, or other occurrence beyond the control of the parties, where any of those factors, circumstances, situations, or conditions or similar ones prevent, dissuade,. or where any of them make it illegal, impossible, inadvisable, or commercially impracticable to hold the Fellowship Projects or to fully perform the terms of the Agreement. The Agreement may be cancelled by either party, without liability, damages, fees, or penalty, and any deposits or amounts paid shall be refunded, for any one or more of the above reasons, by written notice to the other party.
7. By submitting this application, I understand that all information related to my application is stored electronically, may be published on the EAACI website and will be shared with EAACI, CYIM, the EAACI Committees, submission reviewers involved in the winner selection process.
8. Declaration of Conflict of Interest: EAACI is committed to ensuring the integrity of its scientific, educational, and research programmes. Applications require disclosure of any financial or other interest that might be construed as resulting in an actual, potential, or apparent conflict.
9. The Fellowship is a scholarship which in most European countries is tax-free. However, the recipient is responsible for any tax that may be required in some countries.
10. The Fellowship is not intended to cover salary. The salary has to be taken over by the host/home institution.
11. The Fellowship should be used to cover travel and accommodation as well as further required project-related expenses.
12. A person may submit only one application at a time.
13. The award of an EAACI Fellowship is a recognition of the excellence of a young scientists or clinician. Thus, previously awarded applicants cannot be considered for the same award again in subsequent years.
14. All documents must be submitted in English and uploaded to the online application platform before the closing date.
15. Applications that do not include all required forms or forms that are not properly completed will not be considered for review.
16. The applications will be reviewed by an expert panel including representatives of EAACI and will be handled in strict confidence.
17. The starting date of the Fellowship period must start before the end of each year.
18. In alignment of the EAACI awards policy the Fellowship recipients will be required to provide a detailed report on the results of the scientific project including a financial overview detailing how the award money was used for the awardee`s specific research.
