Welcome message from the Organizing Committee

We are pleased to announce the EAACI Pediatric Allergy and Asthma Meeting will take place on 2 – 4 November 2023, attended by internationally renowned experts who are committed to sharing new research and findings, and coming up with solutions to the most pressing challenges in the pediatric field.

The burden of allergic diseases and asthma in children has been significantly increasing during the last years, among other reasons due to differences in lifestyles, age of food introduction and industrialization. Allergy is a multi‐system disorder, and children often have several co‐existing diseases, i.e. allergic rhinitis, asthma, eczema and food allergy.

These diseases can be debilitating or even life-threatening, and impact multiple aspects of daily life, including school, travel, dining, sleeping and socialising. Families of allergic children and children themselves often face anxiety and stress and need to adapt to diagnoses, management and treatment.

A cooperative partnership between clinicians managing children with allergic conditions in the hospital, emergency services, regulatory authorities, academia, schools, parents, and the child is necessary to ensure allergic children are protected. PAAM 2023 provides the platform for ensuring that research and science trickles down to this effect and allows experts worldwide to gain and share knowledge on the most current developments.

Sessions will focus on the current hot topics in the field of pediatric allergy and immunology, One-health, where we stand in research on environment and immunomodulation; food allergy for a proper diagnosis, risk assessment and management; asthma during childhood: from preschool children into adulthood; the epigenetics of allergy in children; up-date on primary immunodeficiencies and skin atopic disorders; delivering better care to children at risk of severe anaphylaxis will be some of the highlights in the rich scientific programme that is currently being developed.

PAAM Hybrid 2023 will this year be delivered in an interactive hybrid format, which will enable delegates to join in person in the beautiful city of Porto (PT) but also to watch plenaries and most of the other sessions on five tracks at their own place. Networking opportunities will be offered to meet and discuss topical issues with participants and experts.

It will be a pleasure to welcome you to the EAACI Pediatric Allergy and Asthma Meeting in the historic city of Porto, Portugal, from 2-4 November 2023. The European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology has enjoyed successful Focused Meetings over the last few years, and the Pediatric Allergy and Asthma Meetings always bring together leading experts and emerging professionals in pediatric allergy and asthma. We are excited to invite you to this highly anticipated scientific event.

PAAM Hybrid 2023 will focus on the burden of allergic diseases and asthma in children. This is a fundamental matter at EAACI. On one side, pediatric asthma is the most common chronic disease of childhood, therefore, remains a significant burden on the health care system nowadays; and on the other side, the increase in the
prevalence of allergic diseases in children is a well-known phenomenon that suggests a greater population may be at risk of adverse outcomes. Therefore, EAACI’s Focused Meetings are the ideal interdisciplinary forum in which
experts can identify knowledge gaps and research priorities. As in previous years, our objectives are not only to deepen our understanding but also to focus on improving patient care together. That’s why patient care is always at the forefront of discussions during EAACI’s events. We believe PAAM Hybrid 2023 will provide our scientific community with valuable knowledge and experience for improving patient outcomes.

Moreover, with the hybrid format of this year’s event, our objective is to provide an interactive platform for delegates to exchange insights and information, whether they are attending in person or via our digital platform. We are delighted with our hybrid formats because they facilitate a unique and productive environment for scientific
discussions and meaningful collaborations, bringing together professionals from all around the globe.
