After undertaking my medical training in Cambridge, my dermatology training posts were in Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester during which time I was continuously attached to the cutaneous allergy clinic but undertook no phototherapy – a situation I wouldn’t have got away with today! I was appointed as a consultant dermatologist in Leeds, UK in 1995 to provide a clinical service for the investigation of contact dermatitis and occupational skin disease and have more than 200 peer reviewed publications and have written chapters on irritant, allergic and occupational dermatitis for major dermatology textbooks.

I now work part-time exclusively in the cutaneous allergy clinic and chaired the group which updates the European baseline series. I am currently President of the European Society of Contact Dermatitis.
