About the Venue
The Palazzo della Gran Guardia borders the south side of Piazza Brà and leans on the historic municipal walls. Until the Second World War the portico of the "Gran Guardia" was used for markets and fairs. In the 1960s the building was restored, adding new rooms that allowed the historic monument to play an active part in the life of the city, hosting important historical exhibits, among other things.
Things unfortunately changed when the city center shifted to the south, in the fairgrounds and in the new headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce. The Gran Guardia then lost the vital role it always played. Thus, in the 1980s the Municipal Administration saved the monument from the wounds of disuse, assigning it to the Congress Center and radically restoring it, equipping it with efficient technological systems that made it a modern, equipped, accessible multi-purpose center. In addition to the exhibition spaces on the upper floor, the Gran Guardia has been equipped with an auditorium and various meeting rooms.
In addition to art exhibitions, the Gran Guardia is now also used for concerts, medical conferences, exhibitions, etc.
