Dr.Yoshitaka Okamoto graduated from Akita University in 1979 and gained an MD. He learned immunology at the Graduate School of Medicine, Akita University. After getting Ph D., Dr. Okamoto studied mucosal immunology at the State University of New York at Buffalo from 1985 to 1988 (under Professor Peary L. Ogra). He returned to Akita University and engaged in the treatment of allergy and head and neck cancer. He was appointed as a chief Professor of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at Yamanashi University in 1996, then moved to Chiba University in 2002. Allergy in upper respiratory tract and Head and neck oncology are of his main research fields. He has participated in the development of sublingual immunotherapy for allergic rhinitis.
