Professor Peter KOROŠEC has established a research group with a high international reputation in Allergology and Genetics. He was pioneering the clinical use of basophil activation test (BAT) in Hymenoptera venom allergy, the development of mast cell activation test (MAT), and the clinical use of venom recombinant allergens. He has published some significant studies in these fields. In recent years, he has started to characterize inherited and acquired genetic variants leading to severe allergic reactions with the discovery of heritable risk for severe anaphylaxis associated with increased α-tryptase-encoding germline copy number at TPSAB1. Defining immunogenetic and inflammation mechanisms regulating mast cells and basophils will help to develop novel targeted therapeutic approaches for individuals with severe allergic inflammation and anaphylaxis.
